24/7 Support Committee
Who Are We?
We are members of a volunteer social justice group called the 247-Support Committee. This is a group of people who came together to help support our friends, family, neighbours, and allies who got arrested, harassed, beat up, traumatized, and screwed over by the cops and the legal system during the G20 in June. At one point there were 247 people with G20-related charges, and the name stuck. Going through everything that happened during the G20 has opened our eyes to the brutality and injustice of the criminal legal system that affects lots of ordinary people every single day, particularly in communities of poor people, indigenous people, people with disabilities, migrants, people of colour and other marginalized communities. We think that no one should have to suffer the indignities of this injustice system, and we want to work together to change it.
What’s the Problem?
For many people the criminal legal system can be violent, uncaring, and unfair. Unchecked police powers often result in biased policing and abuses of power. Backed up bail courts mean people wait days in custody and their families are forced to choose between going to work, or bailing out their loved ones. Legal aid is inaccessible and private lawyers are expensive meaning people are often forced to represent themselves at trial. Accused people and their families are forced to endure the whole agonizing process with little to no support.
What Can We Do?
We can work together to change the injustices of the legal system. We have to come together to make our voices heard as these problems will not fix themselves. Let’s start by expressing our frustration, and standing in solidarity with those who are subjected to the criminal legal system everyday.

The 247 Support Committee works to ensure that the political targeting of people for their involvement in the 2010 G20 People's Convergence end and that all charges against the hundreds of individuals facing prosecution be immediately dropped. The 247 Support Committee is part of the Toronto Community Solidarity Network that is organizing a broad political and legal defense in response to the Police violence of June 2010.
The immediate focus of the 247 Committee’s work is on providing support and logistics around upcoming court dates. The 247 Committee is working to organize billeting, rides, media and general support (food,
outreach, and resource referrals).
the 247 Committee through the Toronto Community Solidarity Network also works in support of all G20 defendants by assisting with:
• resource referrals and information about trauma and other psycho-social needs;
• legal defence fundraising support and access;
• a way for G20 Defendants and members of the 247 Support Committee to
connect with each other, mobilize and organize

The G8/G20 meetings took place in Ontario from June 25-27, 2010. Toronto-based organizations of women, people of colour, indigenous peoples, the poor, the working class, queer and trans people and disabled people organized a peoples convergence with 40,000 people taking to the streets, standing up for justice in collaboration and solidarity!
Activists, community members, inspired and outraged individuals came together as a movement to demand justice for people and the planet. Over a week of mobilizations, events, workshops and direct actions took place in the face of state and police repression, violence and infringements on rights and freedoms.
We must continue to mobilize and build greater solidarity among our communities- an important part of this is supporting all those arrested during the G20 summit, including our allies still in detention, and those released on bail.
